March 31st 2023 – Tiger Morning News
March 31, 2023
Weekly News!
Good morning,
Please join MEChA today during both lunches in the quad as they celebrate Cesar Chavez day. We will have music, games, and more! Si se puede! César Chávez day is a federal commemorative holiday observed on March 31st. It is the birthday of César Chávez and serves as a tribute to his commitment to social justice. He was the son of Mexican immigrants who worked as farmers. César began working at a very young age in the fields. He also served in the U.S. Navy. After witnessing the harsh conditions that immigrants faced working on the farms, such as exploitation from employers in exchange for little or no payment, no access to healthcare, and lack of access to basic services he started an agricultural union called, National Farm Workers Association (later changed to United Farm Workers of America). This was the first successful farm workers union in the United States to fight for the labor rights of farm workers. César Chávez used principles of non-violence to fight for farm workers and remained President of United Farm Workers of America until he died in 1993. César’s advocacy and heroic actions led to many protections for farm workers throughout the U.S. and is what makes him an important figure for all of us to recognize and appreciate. In addition to your core curriculum, below are some resources to highlight César Chávez Day: https://ca.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/americon-lp-cesar-chavez/lesson-plan/ |

2023 SENIOR INFORMATION
Events!
Hello Tigers!!
I hope your finals are faring well with your students! I just wanted to share a couple of flyers with you as I prepare to begin my massive recruiting process for the 2023-2024 school year. I will be sending one more flyer out for color guard as well tomorrow!
The band parent meeting will be in the library! A lot of information will be covered in this meeting!
The purpose of all of these clinics is to get all students on the same page in terms of music literacy, instrument technique and marching technique (we will start marching technique in March/April). This way when band camp rolls around in July students are not lost or confused when musical or marching concepts are asked of them. I just want to ensure student success as we grow.
For students interested in drumline it is in the best interest for them to attend clinics from day one. They will be learning proper technique on drumline instruments as well as front ensemble. Drumline and percussion will be only open to actual percussionists (students who play drums). Drumline Auditions will be March 27- March 31 and the drumline will be selected March 31, 2023.Happening this week!
If you know any former band students who would be interested in returning to band please share with them.
Thank you for the continued support of the Tiger Band Program!
