Ceramics Class at San Jacinto High School
January 25, 2023
One of the various class choices here at SJHS include Ceramics. This class will teach students how to create their own artwork while managing their time effectively. The ceramic itself is a solid made up of metal or non metal that can be shaped and hardened under intense heat. For example, a kiln is used in ceramics to fire clay and porcelain. Wanda Simchuk, the teacher of the ceramics class at SJHS believes that this class helps students learn to problem solve, use their hands, and think creatively. Also how following instructions and doing things correctly are needed to succeed. For instance, Earthenware is used for cooking and freezing items since it is heat and coldproof. The drying time of the ceramic itself depends on the weather and conditions in the room to dry. Simchuk says that she has been doing ceramics for over 30 years. She has taught herself ceramics when she got a job in Lander WY to teach ceramics, and has been hooked ever since. But she also has taught every other aspect of art- drawing, painting, sculpture, jewelry/metalsmithing, stained glass, printmaking, photography, online art and, IB Art. She also has a masters in education. Students in the ceramic class at SJHS can display their projects in the SJHS library foyer. Once again, this is Sya Penn, a videographer for the Tiger Media Network. Thank you for watching my Ceramics Short Film and make sure to check out sjhsnews.com for more content. Thank you.
